Steam Coffee Bar

Project Description

Client: St Austell Brewery

Location: Newquay, Cornwall

Located within the Great Western Hotel in Newquay, Steam is a coffee bar providing the, Brewer & bean coffee experience. The concept was to create a designated coffee shop located at the front of the hotel, serving guests and the local community. We helped to create an area where customers could be served great coffee in a relaxing setting, without the need of travelling through the extensive building to the bar at the rear.

The interior design takes influences from the industrial age and the romantic steam locomotive era, using hotel’s historic links to Newquay’s past. An industrial, fabricated look and feel was planned, with existing brick work exposed to create a back drop to the service area. Raw galvanised metal shelving and corten steel panels were used at the front to the counter . Quirky top and bowler hat pendant lights were positioned over the main counter giving a nostalgic link to the holiday makers and commuters of the past. Reclaimed enamel railway signage, framed vintage newspaper illustrations and eclectic memorabilia all added to the theme.
