Drawing inspiration from the lush and distinctive exotic gardens of St. Michaels Mount, the interior of the Island Cafe seamlessly blends with the surrounding environment. Originally serving as the castle laundry, the architectural integrity of the space has been thoughtfully preserved, effortlessly merging the original structure with a vibrant new cafe design. The primary objective of the project was to fashion an ideal haven for patrons to rejuvenate and savour the picturesque surroundings before embarking on further exploration of the captivating St. Michael’s Mount.
Exposed original brick walls and generously sized timber windows now allow natural light to fill the space, creating an inviting ambiance. The addition of clusters of sculptural timber pendants, vivid splashes of colour, and captivating artworks by local illustrator Jennifer Armitage further enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of the interior.
