St Austell Brewery were developing an exclusive coffee brand and we were involved in the design and implementation of the first standalone Brewer & Bean Coffee Shop located in Plymouth’s vibrant Barbican. The interior needed a strong, memorable identity and we designed a scheme, which reflected the brands values. It is an honest, natural and organic space, which uses the original fabric of the building. The ceiling was removed to expose the ducting, wiring and services. Vintage industrial pendant lighting is surface fixed with the metal conduit, making a feature at high level. Sand blasted brick walls are complimented with horizontal black burnt timbers.
The main service counter was designed to give the impression that it was adapted from existing furniture pieces giving an eclectic mix that added to the interiors personality. Vintage botanical prints, tea, coffee pots and product displays all combine to help re-enforce this feel. The structural columns with bold graphic wallpapers are used for bespoke high tables, with clusters of metal cage lights and metal stools. The classic furniture styles help to create a warm and loved atmosphere, with a mixture of built in, lounge and loose seating.
