Kota Kai

Project Description

Client: Kota Kai

Location: Porthleven, Cornwall

The Kota Kai restaurant was originally established to offer a family-friendly dining experience on Cornwall’s south coast, with a menu inspired by Chef Jude Kereama’s diverse heritage—born in New Zealand and of Maori and Chinese Malay descent. We were commissioned to update the interior design to give the restaurant a more “grown-up” feel while preserving its relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The new interior complements the menu and stands out from typical family-friendly venues. The open-plan layout showcases the stunning harbour views, drawing attention to the restaurant’s special location. A refreshed colour palette, along with the use of natural materials and textures, creates a calmer and more cohesive space.

The renovation features a striking new statement bar and updated dining furniture.  The new space features bespoke handmade lighting by Lovelinkin baskets, artwork by local artists including Felix Griffiths, Zee Van G, Jo Hague and photography by Jack Johns adorn the walls.
