The Brook is a newly built 10-bed inpatient unit at Langdon Hospital, created for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. More than a healthcare setting, it has been designed to feel like a home—warm, restorative, and connected to its natural surroundings.
Inside, every detail has been carefully considered to create a low-stimulus, calming environment. The colour palette draws on warm, natural tones in a matt finish to minimise glare, while furnishings highlight the beauty of natural wood. Spaces are acoustically treated to reduce noise and support a sense of tranquillity.
With input from people with lived experience, the interiors were shaped to promote dignity, recovery, and comfort. The Brook embodies the belief that interior design can play a vital role in healing—balancing safety with warmth, and functionality with beauty.
