Mylor Yacht Club

Project Description

Client: Mylor Yacht Harbour

Location: Falmouth, Cornwall

We were asked by the Yacht Club to provide an interior scheme for the new two story purpose built club house sited in a prominent position over looking the harbour. Relocating from a smaller building nearby, it was important the new design kept the character, personality and feel of the original. We provided a design which compliments both the new contemporary building and the clubs heritage. Using a co-design approach we ensured the needs and wishes of the existing members were met, whilst at the same time considering a design which would appeal to new younger members.

To create an intimate and personal interior space, we added reclaimed industrial and maritime items and club memorabilia within the new architectural elements. The large open spaces are broken up with inlaid timber ceiling coffers and bespoke manilla rope screens, inspired from the working boat yard along side. A semi circular bar, with sweeping curves central to the design, leads the eye to the amazing sea view. The bar and lounge seating sit next to the full height glazing, with a slatted timber wave lighting raft above helping to frame the view.
